High frequency alternating current commonly excites plasmas in sources for negative hydrogen (H) ions at a frequency in the MHz range. A high-speed beam current monitor system coupled to a narrow entrance slit enabled the investigation of the special distribution of the AC component intensity of the H ion beam extracted from an ion source driven by a 2 MHz radio frequency (RF) power. The distribution showed a smaller oscillation of the beam at the center.

Recently, it was found that -YbAlB shows quantum criticality without tuning and has a strong mixed-valence state. In this study, we measured the magnetization curve and X-ray magnetoabsorption in -YbAlFeB (), which is a locally isostructural polymorph of -YbAlB. The magnetization and X-ray experiments were performed in fields up to 55 and 40 T, respectively. A small increase in the Yb valence was observed at fields where the magnetization curve exhibited a change in slope.

We present a theoretical model of single-frequency microwave reflectometry of plasma density fluctuations with the objective of quantitative estimation of their poloidal spectrum shape and amplitude. The model is based on the analytical solution of the full-wave equation for O-mode microwave propagation inside the plasma in the Born approximation. The solution allows us to find explicitly the poloidal spectrum of weak plasma fluctuations. With the additional assumption of 2D isotropic spectrum in the r- plane it is also possible to find the fluctuation amplitude. We illustrate our model by the analysis of real signals recorded by the O-mode reflectometer on the JT-60U device.

The fluctuation of ponderomotive potential at a beat wave frequency between the two frequency fast waves produces the actual potential fluctuation via electron and ion motions. A heavy ion beam probe (HIBP) detected the potential fluctuation patterns at a beat wave frequency during the fast wave pulse. The amplitude of potential fluctuations decreases with increasing an electron temperature in fast wave current drive (FWCD) experiments of JFT-2M, due to the improvement of wave absorption via electron Landau damping. The measured potential fluctuation does not contradict with the prediction using a full wave code calculations.
